Palestine confirms 1,676 new coronavirus cases, eight deaths

Palestine today confirmed 1,676 new Covid-19 cases and eight death cases, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh.

She announced that 1,676 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and eight others died of it in the occupied territories.

As part of the 1,676 new cases, 807 cases were registered in the West Bank, including Jerusalem city, and 869 others in the Gaza Strip.

She identified the death cases as a resident of the Gaza Strip and seven others from the West Bank.

She added that 334 Covid-19 patients recovered; 189 recovery cases in the West Bank, including Jerusalem city, and 145 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 34 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units and 97 others are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and Covid-19 dispensaries, including seven who are intubated.

She said that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 95.5 percent and the active cases account for 3.4 percent. The death toll stood at 1.1 percent of total infections.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 748,541 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, including 443,918 people who received the second dose of the vaccine.
