Palestine records 815 Covid-19 cases, 21 deaths

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 5, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 815 new Covid-19 cases and 21 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh.
She announced that 815 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 21 others died of it in the occupied territories.
Among the new 815 cases, 203 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and 612 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In the West Bank, Nablus district was ranked the first with (51) cases, followed by Ramallah & al-Bireh (38) cases, Hebron (35) cases, Tulkarm (29) cases, Jenin (26) cases, Bethlehem (10) cases, Qalqiliya (four) cases, Tubas, Salfit and Jerusalem suburbs, each of which recorded three cases, in addition to Jericho & the Jordan Valley, which recorded a case.
Al-Kaileh identified the deaths as 15 deaths from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and six others from the besieged Gaza Strip.
The West Bank deaths were distributed as follows: four in Tulkarm district, four others in Nablus, three in Hebron, two in Bethlehem, another in Jenin and another in Qalqiliya.
She added that 1,979 Covid-19 patients recovered; 649 recovery cases in the West Bank, including Jerusalem district, and 1,330 others in the Gaza Strip.
She pointed that 136 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 40 who are connected to ventilators, while 332 others are currently hospitalized across the West Bank.
Recoveries account for 93.8 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 5.1 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 261,322 people have received the vaccine so far, including 192,201 people who received the second dose of the vaccine.
