Sudanese Army unilaterally walks out of talks with foes

The General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces on Wednesday declared unilateral suspension of the talks held in Jeddah.

The command said in a statement that it was unilaterally holding the discussions due to continuous “breaches” by the Rapid Support Forces, their adversary in the fighting raging in the capital and several regions.

Fighting between the army and the paramilitary force had erupted after talks aimed at integrating the regulars into the army reached a deadlock. These talks were part of larger scale negotiations among the country’s parties to shift powers from the military to a civil rule.

Saudi Arabia has recently opted to host conciliation talks between the two foes in Jeddah.
