Alibaba Cloud Unveils AI Image Generation Model Tongyi Wanxiang to Help Businesses to Unleash Creativity and Productivity

ModelScopeGPT also launched to help users accomplish complex AI tasks

SHANGHAI, CHINA – Media OutReach – 7 July 2023 – Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, today unveiled its latest AI image generation model, Tongyi Wanxiang (‘Wanxiang’ means ‘tens of thousands of images’) at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2023. The cutting-edge generative AI model is now available for enterprise customers in China for beta testing.

In addition, the cloud pioneer announced the launch of ModelScopeGPT, a versatile framework designed to assist users in accomplishing complex and specialized AI tasks across language, vision, and speech domains by leveraging various AI models on ModelScope. ModelScope is an open-source Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform introduced by Alibaba Cloud last year, featuring over 900 AI models.

“Tongyi Wanxiang represents another significant milestone in our pursuit of advanced generative AI models as we continue to explore paradigm-shifting technologies that empower businesses and communities to unleash greater creativity and productivity,” said Jingren Zhou, CTO of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

“With the release of Tongyi Wanxiang, high-quality generative AI imagery will become more accessible, facilitating the development of innovative AI art and creative expressions for businesses across a wide range of sectors, including e-commerce, gaming, design and advertising.”

Introducing Tongyi Wanxiang for Image Generation

The generative AI model is adept at handling various tasks, responding to text prompts in Chinese and English to generate detailed images in an array of styles, encompassing watercolours, oil and Chinese painting to animation, sketch, flat illustration, and 3D cartoons. Moreover, the model can transform any image into a new one with a similar style and stylize images through style transfer, which preserves the content of the original image while applying the visual style of another picture.

Powered by Alibaba Cloud’s trailblazing technologies in knowledge arrangement, visual AI and natural language processing (NLP), the model leverages multilingual materials for enhanced training. It boasts a robust semantic comprehension capability, resulting in more accurate and contextually relevant image generation.

Additionally, by optimizing the high-resolution diffusion process based on the signal-to-noise ratio, the model can strike a balance between composition accuracy and detail sharpness while enhancing its ability to generate high-contrast, visually stunning images with clean backgrounds.

Tongyi Wanxiang was developed using Composer, Alibaba Cloud’s proprietary large model that enables greater control over the final image output, such as spatial layout and palette, while maintaining image synthesis quality and creativity.

Nablus: Two Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in West Bank

Two Palestinian militants have been shot dead by Israeli forces during a raid in the occupied West Bank, as tensions surge in the region.

On Friday morning locals reported hearing heavy gunfire as Israeli troops surrounded a house in Nablus.

The men killed have been named locally as Khayri Shahin, 34, and Hamze Maqbool, 32.

Israel said they were wanted gunmen who fired on their forces before they could be detained.

The Palestinian militant group Hamas described the men as “heroes of the resistance” and accused Israel of terrorism.

It is the latest in a series of intense military raids that have taken place in the occupied West Bank over the last year.

It comes amid rapidly escalating violence this week when Israel launched a massive military assault into a refugee camp in Jenin.

At least 12 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier were killed during the three-day incursion.

It involved Israeli armed drone strikes into the camp and gun battles with Palestinian militants.

This year has seen a growing number of armed attacks by Palestinians targeting Israelis, and Israel has said it will continue military operations to stop Jenin being a “refuge for terrorism”.

After Friday morning’s raid in Nablus, a video emerged of the two men thought to have been recorded earlier this week, in which they claimed affiliation with the Palestinian militant group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and said they would “respond” to the attack on Jenin.

Israel’s domestic intelligence agency Shabak said they were suspected of shooting at a police car and a shop in a Jewish settlement near Nablus.

The raid triggered violent confrontations with young Palestinians.

Paramedics from the Palestinian Red Crescent said ambulances were prevented from reaching the scene, adding that one man was seriously wounded with a leg injury.

Meanwhile, the funeral took place of an Israeli soldier, Staff Sgt Shilo Yosef Amir, 22, who was shot dead by a Palestinian gunman on Thursday, close to the Jewish settlement of Kdumim near Nablus.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, which it described as a response to Israel’s attack on Jenin.

The settlement is home to Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bazalel Smotrich.

Hamas said the attack was intended to show the minister it “almost knocked on your door”.

Israeli artillery strikes Lebanon after anti-tank missile launch

Israel’s military says it responded with artillery fire after an anti-tank missile was launched from Lebanon.

Some of the missile’s parts “fell in Lebanon and some parts fell adjacent to the fence in the town of Ghajar in Israeli territory”, a statement said.

Lebanon’s state news agency reported that more than 15 Israeli shells hit the outskirts of the Lebanese villages of Kfar Shouba and Halta.

So far no militant group has claimed they were behind the missile launch.

The United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, Unifil, urged all sides to “exercise restraint and avoid any action that could cause further escalation” on the frontier, where tensions have increased in recent months.

In April, the Israeli military carried out air strikes on targets it said belonged to the Palestinian militant group Hamas in southern Lebanon after more than 30 rockets were fired from there towards Israeli territory.

It was the biggest such barrage from Lebanon since Israel and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah fought a war in 2006.

Unifil said that its peacekeepers detected explosions near al-Majidiya shortly after 08:00 local time (05:00 GMT) on Thursday, and that while they could not confirm the cause the sounds were consistent with a possible rocket launch.

Around 12:00, they detected shellfire from Israel hitting Kafr Shouba, it added.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties.

Security sources in Lebanon that two rockets – rather than an anti-tank misile – were fired towards Israel.

The sources said one landed in Lebanese territory and the other near Ghajar, a contested town which straddles the frontier between Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

The Israeli military initially said that a rocket “exploded adjacent to the Blue Line in Israeli territory”, referring to the UN-demarcated frontier between the states.

But it later said that after assessing the shrapnel the projectile was identified as an anti-tank missile, and that some of its parts had fallen inside Israeli territory near Ghajar.

Israel currently occupies both halves of Ghajar and was supposed to have withdrawn from the Lebanese half under the UN Security Council resolution that ended the 2006 war.

Hezbollah has not commented on the rocket fire. But on Thursday morning the Iran-backed group issued a statement condemning the “serious measures” recently taken by Israeli forces in Ghajar, including “the erection of a barbed wire and the construction of a cement wall surrounding the entire town”.

Last month, Israel filed a complaint with the UN saying that Hezbollah had erected two tents a few metres over the frontier on Israeli land in the area.

Israeli media reported on Sunday that the group had dismantled one of the tents amid growing international pressure.

Thursday’s exchange of fire also comes a day after Israeli forces completed a major operation in Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.

US Treasury Secretary meets Chinese premier

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said during a meeting Friday with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang that decoupling the economies of the US and China is “practically impossible” despite the trade differences between the world’s two largest economies. According to the Washington Post, Yellen told officials of US investment companies in China that “the decoupling of the two largest economies in the world will lead to destabilisation of the global economy.” Yellen’s comments come as US politicians call for a “disengagement” between the two economies to reduce Washington’s dependence on the Asian country, amid escalating geopolitical disputes. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called for “healthy competition” with China, expressing hope that “differences” would not cause a “useless deterioration” in relations between the two countries.

UN chief strongly condemns all acts of violence against civilians in Jenin

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he was deeply disturbed by the news from Jenin in the occupied West Bank. “Israel’s airstrikes and ground operations in a crowded refugee camp were the worst violence in the West Bank in many years, with a significant impact on civilians, including more than one hundred injured and thousands forced to flee.,’ he said during a press briefing. He reiterated his call on Israel to abide by its obligations under international law, including the duty to exercise restraint and use only proportional force, and the duty to minimize damage and injury and respect and preserve human life. He described the use of airstrikes as inconsistent with the conduct of law enforcement operations. The Secretary-General noted that schools and hospitals were damaged, water and electricity networks were disrupted, and people in need were prevented from accessing essential care and relief. ‘All those injured must have access to medical care, and humanitarian workers must be able to reach everyone in need,’ he said. He reminded Israel that as the occupying power, it is responsible for ensuring that the civilian population is protected against all acts of violence. ‘Restoring the hope of the Palestinian people in a meaningful political process, leading to a two-State solution and the end of the occupation, is an essential contribution by Israel to its own security,’ the Secretary-General concluded.

Israeli settlers erect tent on Palestinian-owned land, attempt to farm it as prelude to seize it

Israeli settlers today erected a tent on a Palestinian-owned plot of land in the Wadi al-Ghoroos area to the east of the city of Hebron and attempted to farm it, in an apparent prelude to taking over the land, said the land owner, Abdel-Kareem al-Qaimari. The owner said that settlers placed a tent on his privately-owned land, located between the illegal Israeli settlements of Kharsina Kharsina and Kiryat Arba, east of the city, in an apparent attempt to take over his nine dunums of land planted with almond trees, noting to several past attempts by settlers to plant his land with grapevines and seize it. “Settler violence has long since become part of Palestinians’ daily life under occupation. Israeli security forces enable these actions, which result in Palestinian casualties – injuries and fatalities – as well as damage to land and property. In some cases, they even serve as an armed escort, or even join in the attacks,” said the Israeli information center for human rights in occupied territories, B’Tselem. “Investigations, if even opened, are usually closed with no action taken against perpetrators as part of an undeclared policy of leniency. The long-term effect of this violence is the dispossession of Palestinians from increasing parts of the West Bank, making it easier for Israel to take over land and resources,” said B’Tselem.

Adherence principle of “guardianship” is factor of strength and crucial issue for nation in its religious and worldly affairs

On a large scale, the Yemeni people celebrated the anniversary of ” Wilayah” day, “Eid al-Ghadir”, announcing to the whole world their steadfastness on the true religion, their adherence to and their pride in loyalty to God and His Messenger, Imam Ali, and the flags of guidance.

While Arab regimes and governments are racing to normalize relations with the Jews and Christians, the Yemenis came out with the great and remarkable momentum, in about 100 arenas, renewing loyalty to God, His Noble Messenger, Imam Ali, and the flags of guidance among the believers who took upon themselves the issues and concerns of the nation away from dependence and subordination to its enemies.

They also realize very well that if they do not support God, His Messenger, and the believers among the signs of guidance, then they will fall victim to the alliance of the Jews and Christians, as happens to some leaders of the Arab regimes, led by the Saudi and Emirati regimes, after they turned into tools to implement the agendas of America and Israel at the expense of the Arab and Islamic nation.

The principle of guardianship in Islam represents a great and important principle, and a guarantee for the integrity of the religion’s march, its vitality and effectiveness, and for preserving the nation from penetration, as emphasized by the revolution leader, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, in his speech on the occasion of the anniversary of ” Wilayah” day, “Eid al-Ghadir”.

The revolution leader pointed out that the absence of the principle of guardianship left the Islamic arena in front of the infidels and hypocrites to be a theater for them and their interventions, because the principle of guardianship fortifies the nation.

And he makes it not accept from the unbelievers and the hypocrites their guardianship, control and their interference in its affairs and their control over it, in addition to that it elevates the nation in its purification and awareness to the level of confronting the tyrant and his tools of the unbelievers and hypocrites,

In addition to the many good results that are achieved in the reality of the nation so that its religion is straightened and it follows God’s approach correctly, and it reaps the fruit of its faith in victory, honor and divine support.

The adoption of America officially and politically to spread sedition, immorality, obscenity of homosexuality, crimes and corruption in an unprecedented manner,

The occasion comes within the framework of the terrible war waged by the tyrant, and whoever falls under his jurisdiction, against Islam and Muslims, in this era, through which he carries out the greatest process of deforming human society in order to enslave him and impose his dark mandate on him.

Also, the commemoration of the Day of the Guardianship is an important station in which the believers draw inspiration from the lessons and lessons from the life of Imam Ali in terms of courage and morals, and they follow his fragrant biography, which is full of stances of faith and great exploits.

The occasion is also an opportunity to learn more about the virtues of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, and his virtues mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, the hadiths of the greatest Messenger, and the books of scholars and jurists, in addition to delving into the thought and philosophy he carried in all matters of life, including power, the state and the importance of establishing the truth, and enduring Responsibility, performance of trust, enjoining good and forbidding evil.

The principle of guardianship at the level of the reality of the nation is embodied in the performance of tasks and duties with impartiality and complete sincerity along with compassion, solidarity and good treatment with citizens, following the example of the greatest Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, and Imam Ali, peace be upon him, who set the most wonderful examples of giving, establishing justice and supporting truth since he was a boy and even assuming the command of the nation.

Believing that victory and glory will only be for those who are in charge of God, His Messenger, and the believers, the Yemenis went out on this occasion with those large crowds in all the free provinces and districts, as they have been doing for centuries.

To express pride in the appointment of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, and the close connection with him, since the connection with him is a connection with the greatest prophet, and because it is the door to reaching the knowledge that the Holy Prophet presented to the nation.
