Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Meets Qatari Ambassador

Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met Wednesday with HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Lebanon Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al Sahlawi, on the occasion of the end of his tenure.

During the meeting, the Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister praised HE the Ambassador’s role in consolidating bilateral relations, wishing him success in his future tasks, and for bilateral relations further development and prosperity.

40 Palestinians Detained in Large-Scale Arrest Campaign in West Bank

The Israeli occupation forces launched Wednesday a large-scale arrest campaign in various areas in the West Bank.

According to Palestinian news agency (WAFA), the occupation forces detained nine Palestinians in Bethlehem, three in Al-Bireh, and seven in Tubas, after raiding and searching their homes.

Eight more Palestinians were detained in Jenin, and four others in Hebron, Tulkarm and Salfit, including a freed prisoner.

In occupied Jerusalem, the occupation forces detained nine Palestinians, after raiding and searching their homes.

The Israeli occupation forces have stepped up their aggression in the occupied Jerusalem and West Bank, increasing the pace of incursions into Palestinian towns and cities, as well as the arrests against youth and activists and targeting them with live fire.

1 Killed, Several Hurt after Major Fire Breaks Out on Cargo Ship Off Netherlands

A fire broke out on a large cargo ship carrying around 3,000 cars off the coast of the Netherlands on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring several others.

The Fremantle Highway ship was sailing 17 miles north of the Dutch island of Ameland when the fire broke out, Dutch coastguard said.

Rescue workers are working to put out the fire and prevent the ship from sinking.

Some of the crew members jumped off the ship but most were brought to land by helicopter, the coastguard said.

The coastguard’s initial findings suggested the fire started during the night in an electric car then rapidly spread.

The crew sought to extinguish the fire but were unable to do so, the coastguard said.

Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs to QNA: Summer Centers Develop Skills, Motivate Ideas of Students

Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Maha Al Ruwaili underlined that summer centers are stations for refining talents and skills and investing time, as they provide purposeful and diverse reactional and educational activities, coordinated during the summer vacation in the activity centers affiliated with the Ministry, in order to invest the students leisure during the summer vacation.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency , Al Ruwaili noted the important role of summer camps in directing students’ energies and filling their summer with useful activities, while giving them the chance to entertain themselves after the hardship of an academic year.

She added that summer camps contribute positively to discovering talents, refining skills, and investing time; noting that this period of the year is sufficient for recreation, entertainment, and renewal of morale, and presents a great opportunity to reveal students’ talents and qualify them educationally, scientifically, culturally, socially and behaviorally, through targeted summer programs.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has recently launched the Summer Centers Program for the second year in a row. The program will continue until August 16 in a number of centers for boys and girls.

According to Al Ruwaili, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, allocated (5) centers for male students and two centers for female students, located in various parts of the country.

She noted that the number of students registered so far on the electronic system and the actual registration in the summer centers has reached nearly (2000) male and female students in all different educational stages, including Qatari children and residents, as well as Qataris in private schools. These centers offer various and purposeful activities in all fields to meet the interests of students and fill their spare time.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education added that summer camps play a prominent role in directing the energies of students and their parents, filling their summer with fun and useful things, while giving them the chance for entertainment. Therefore, it is an opportunity for parents to participate, discover talents and communicate and for the benefit of the students.

She added that parents can coordinate with those in charge of the centers to participate in providing useful information to students through lectures, specialized workshops and useful lessons, according to the procedures followed in such cases; stressing the keenness of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to activate the educational and social role of parents.

Al Ruwaili appreciated the contributions of the parties participating in the activities of summer centers, in particular the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in addition to the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Department of Family Empowerment at the Ministry of Social Development and the Family, and other public and private state institutions, to present a number of sports and cultural activities and various competitions, in addition to public lectures and workshops to provide students with useful information and self-motivating practices.

Al Ruwaili mentioned in her statement to QNA the safety measures and arrangements adopted by the Ministry to ensure the safety and security of students during their summer activities, affirming that the Ministry attaches great importance to this aspect.

She added that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education gives priority for students of all age categories, because students represent one of the criteria by which society’s progress is measured.

Caring for students, whether in schools or summer camps, is caring for the future of the nation and the coming generations to develop their capabilities to face the challenges and requirements of the rapid developments in the Qatari march, she stressed.

In conclusion of her statement to QNA, Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Maha Al Ruwaili underlined that summer centers have a positive role in discovering talents, refining skills, and investing time. They are systematic directions for developing skills, motivating student ideas and directing them to the right path, by consolidating national values and identity. Accordingly, summer camps are not simply events and activities, rather educational incubators that instill culture, knowledge, team work and cooperative spirit.

Sheikh Ahmad Fahad mourns victims of air crash in Saudi Arabia

Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah sent on Wednesday a cable of condolences to Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Khaled bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud over the tragic death of the crew of a Saudi fighter jet.

Sheikh Ahmad Fahad prayed for Allah, the Almighty, to lodge the martyrs in paradise and grant their families patience and solace, according to astatement from the Ministry of Defense.

Over 60 Shabaab militants reportedly killed in Somalia’s Bay region

The Somali National Army said Wednesday that more than 60 militants belonging to “Al-Shabaab terrorist group” were killed in a joint operation “with local residents” in El-Dhun Adegow area, Bay region.

The operation, which targeted and bombed the militants, is part of recent efforts to combat terrorism in Southwest Somalia, the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported, citing sources of the Information Ministry in the southwest state.

The successful operation is part of a chain of operations aimed at rooting out Al-Shabaab militants and restoring peace and security to the region, according to the report.

Iraq And The UAE Discuss Extradition Of Wanted Persons And Funds

The Iraqi Ambassador to the UAE, Mudhaffar Al-Jubouri, discussed with the Emirati Minister of Justice, Abdullah bin Sultan the dissolving of the requests for judicial assistance in recovering and handing over wanted persons and funds to the Iraqi judiciary.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement, “Iraq’s ambassador to the UAE, Mudhaffar Al-Jubouri, met with the Emirati Minister of Justice, Abdullah bin Sultan al-Nuaimi, at the headquarters of the UAE Ministry of Justice.”

It added, “During the meeting, they discussed Iraq’s efforts to combat administrative and financial corruption, and the role of the UAE by resolving requests for judicial assistance in recovering and handing over wanted persons and funds to the Iraqi judiciary.”

It indicated that “the two parties discussed developments in concluding the memorandum of understanding in the field of judicial cooperation in recovering and extraditing wanted persons and funds, and an agreement to transfer convicts to serve their sentences in their countries.”/ End
