Two Gazan prisoners reportedly died at Israeli occupation jail

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported Thursday that two residents of Gaza Strip who were arrested by the Israeli occupation forces recently have been martyred under torture at Israeli occupation jails.

In a joint statement, the Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Club identified the two martyrs as Dr. Adnan Al-Barsh, 50, a consultant at the orthopedic section of Al-Shifaa Hospital in Gaza, and Ismael Khedr, 33.

Dr. Al-Barsh was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces while on duty along with other physicians at the hospital in December 2023; he was tortured at Ofer Prison before martyrdom on April 19.

Khedr was also tortured to death and his body was handed over to the Palestinian authorities at Karm Abu-Salem crossing point on the eastern borders of Gaza Strip.

The two fatalities took to 18 the number of Palestinian prisoners who were tortured to death, according to the statement.

Philippines summons Chinese Embassy official over vessel harassment

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) summoned a senior official at the Chinese Embassy in Manila Thursday over recent “harassment of Philippine vessels” in the South China Sea, describing the harassment as “dangerous maneuvers.” DFA clarified in a statement that it summoned the number two official at the “Chinese Embassy of Manila Deputy Chief of Mission Zhou Zhiyong over the 30 April 2024 harassment of Philippine vessels conducting a routine and regular humanitarian mission to Bajo de Masinloc.” “The Philippines protested the harassment, ramming, swarming, shadowing and blocking, dangerous maneuvers, use of water cannons, and other aggressive actions of China Coast Guard and Chinese Maritime Militia vessels against the vessels of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) enroute to Bajo de Masinloc,” it said in a statement.

“China’s aggressive actions, particularly its water cannon use, caused damage to vessels of PCG and BFAR,” DFA added.

“The
Philippines demanded that Chinese vessels leave Bajo de Masinloc and its vicinity immediately,” it concluded.

In the South China Sea, Manila and Beijing’s ongoing territorial disputes have led to frequent collisions between Philippine and Chinese vessels in recent months, with the China Coast Guard using water cannons.

S. Korea’s Little Angels mark anniversary of energy coop. with Kuwait

Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Energy Cooperation between Kuwait and South Korea, the Little Angels children’s folk ballet troupe of Korea gave an impressive, colorful performance at Abdulhussain Abdulredha Theater on Wednesday evening.

The dancing performance, co-sponsored by Kuwait’s National Council for Culture Arts and Letters (NCCAL) and South Korea Embassy in Kuwait, was meant to convey to the people of Kuwait the peace-loving culture and art of Korea.

It featured the exciting episodes of Rhythms of Korea, Palace Dance – A Royal Court Invitation, Fan Dance – Essence of Beauty, Folk Singing with Gayageum, Sword Dance – Dynamic Energy, New Year Morning, Hourglass Drum Dance, and Choir – Harmony of Emotion.

Founded on May 5, 1962, the Little Angels have traveled to over 50 countries, made over 60 overseas trips, and given more than 7,000 performances inside and outside Korea.

Known as Korea’s young ambassadors of peace and goodwill, the Little Angels have made over 600 television appearances, met
with governments and civilian leaders in each of the countries where they performed.

Death toll rises to 48 after road collapse in S. China

The death toll has risen to 48 after part of an expressway collapsed in south China’s Guangdong Province the previous day, state broadcaster CCTV reported Thursday, citing authorities.

State-run Xinhua News Agency reported that authorities of Meizhou city in Guangdong stated the fatal expressway collapse caused 23 vehicles to plunge, adding that the collapsed section was 17.9 meters long and covering an area of 184.3 square meter, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, “efforts should be made to repair the damaged roads and restore traffic order as soon as possible,” adding that all regions and relevant departments must adhere to bottom-line thinking, consolidate work responsibilities, and strengthen monitoring and early warning, improve emergency plans.

Kuwait weekend weather is moderately hot — meteo.

Kuwait is forecast to witness moderately hot weather over the weekend along with some humidity in coastal regions and sporadic rainfalls.

Kuwait Meteorological Center Director General Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi said in a statement to KUNA on Thursday that the weather would incline toward hotness the rest of Thursday, with relative humidity in coastal regions amid unsteady southeasterly blows. The heat will range between 34 and 36 degrees.

The weather tonight will be moderate amid moisture in seaside areas, while the temperature will drop to 19-21 degrees.

Friday will be hot and damp as the heat is forecast at 35-37 degrees, but at night the heat will settle at 20-22 degrees.

On Saturday, Al-Qarawi added that it would be hot and partially cloudy, along with the dampness, while the heat will wobble between 36 and 28 degrees. At night, it will be moderate and the temperature will range between 22 and 24 degrees.
