The Media and Communications Commission confirmed Iraq’s commitment to international media conventions, and its endeavor to restore a pioneering role in the region by promoting freedom of expression, pluralism, and combating misinformation.

During the expanded workshop on the digital age, freedoms and democracy in Iraq, which was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the head of the Commission, Ali Al-Muayyad, reviewed the great development witnessed by the media reality in Iraq after the year 2003, when the number of media outlets clearly increased, and all social components became represented by media outlets.

He also highlighted the qualitative achievement achieved in consolidating press freedom in Iraq, which was culminated in the historic decision of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, not to prosecute or arrest journalists and media professionals for any administrative or functional violations of their institutions.

Four people killed and injured in a tribal conflict in Maysan

A security source announced that one person was killed and 3 others were injured in a tribal dispute in one of the areas of Maysan.

The source told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): ‘A tribal dispute occurred in the Albu Saba area, south of Maysan Governorate, and developed into the use of weapons, which led to the death of one person and the injury of three others.’

He added: “The security forces arrived at the scene of the incident to resolve the conflict and arrest those responsible.”

The Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, and the Iraqi parliamentary delegation accompanying him participated, today, Wednesday, in the official funeral ceremony for Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and their companions, in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

According to a statement by his media office, Al-Mandalawi went to the hall designated for the bodies of the service martyrs, where he read Surah Al-Fatihah for their souls, and offered his condolences and sympathy to the leadership, government and people of Iran in this painful incident, stressing that Iraq stands by them and stands in solidarity with them in this difficult stage.

The first batch of wounded Palestinian people in Gaza arrived at Baghdad International Airport, today, Wednesday, for treatment, accompanied by cases of patients with incurable conditions.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Hani Al-Aqabi, said in a statement to the official agency: ‘At the request of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani and under the supervision of the Minister of Health, Saleh Al-Hasnawi, we received today a group of 27 wounded Gazans, including those suffering from some incurable diseases. This is the first batch, and it includes a number of children and women and the elderly with their 42 companions.

Parliamentary Security: New recommendations regarding this legislation

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee decided to submit the National Intelligence Service draft law to the Presidency of the House of Representatives to include it on the agenda of the upcoming sessions for the second reading.

During its regular meeting today, Wednesday, the committee recommended hosting the Director of General Traffic and the Director of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Interior to discuss the draft first amendment to Traffic Law No. (8) of 2019.

The committee also recommended submitting its recommendations regarding the report on the proposal for the first amendment to Passport Law No. (32) of 2015, to the Presidency of the Council in order to present it for a second reading in Parliament.

The committee discussed the special report on the first amendment to the Civil Defense Law No. (44) of 2013.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, European and UN Cooperation… the equitable quality education program in Iraq launched

It was announced in the capital, Baghdad, today, Wednesday, the launch of the project ‘Equitable Quality Education in Iraq, Improving Teaching and Learning and Enhancing Educational Management’ (ITALEEM) under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, and in cooperation with the European Union and the UNESCO and UNICEF organizations, as this program aims to enhance the Ministry of Education’s ability to reach more than 100,000 teachers and 30,000 schools.

The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Al-Jubouri, said during the official announcement of the launch of the program’s activities: ‘We appreciate the efforts made by our partners in the European Union, UNESCO and UNICEF in order for learners to obtain a quality and fair education, as this educational program will support the Ministry of Education and improve the level and quality of performance that targets more than 10 million Iraqi students.

The Minister of Immigration and Displacement, Ivan Faiq Jabro, supervised today, in the field, the return of 450 displaced people from the Musayyib District to their original residential areas in the villages of Alexandria (the Lakes Region), in the presence of the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Fadi Al-Shammari, and the Commander of Middle Euphrates Operations in the Popular Mobilization Forces, Major General Ali Al-Hamdani and a number of sheikhs and notables of the region.

Kurdistan Regional Health records the first three cases of cholera and hemorrhagic fever during 2024

The Minister of Health in the Kurdistan Region, Saman Al-Barzanji, announced today, Wednesday, the recording of the first three cases of cholera and hemorrhagic fever in the year 2024.

Al-Barzanji confirmed in a joint press conference held with Bekard Talabani, the region’s Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, regarding the death of large numbers of seagulls in Dokan Lake in Sulaymaniyah: The first case of cholera was recorded in the Kurdistan region during the current year, in addition to two cases of hemorrhagic fever.

He pointed out that about 50 cases of hemorrhagic fever were recorded throughout the regions and cities of Iraq, of whom 8 patients died, while the Kurdistan region recorded two cases, one of whom died, noting that hospitals and medical centers in the region are taking the necessary health measures to reduce the incidence of these two diseases.
