The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) denounced allegations by the so-called UN Watch, which it described as “an organization with a deep history of unfounded and politically-driven assertions against the Agency.”

It said UN Watch released a report accusing 22 UNRWA personnel of promoting violence and hate through social media channels. It said that 10 of the 22 persons mentioned in the report are UNRWA personnel; the others are not associated with the Agency.

“UNRWA is upholding the values of the United Nations and has a zero-tolerance policy for hatred. The Agency takes each allegation seriously. It has immediately launched a thorough investigation through due process to determine if any of these 10 persons, out of more than 28,000 personnel, violated the Agency’s social media policies that prohibit personnel from engaging in non-neutral behaviors online,” UNRWA said in a statement.

“In previous reports over a five-year period, UN Watch identified a total of 101 cases where UNRWA personnel allegedly posted content on social media that was in breach of its Regulatory Framework, including the neutrality policy. Upon investigation of these cases, UNRWA found that 57% of the allegations could not be tied to personnel employed by the Agency at the time of the reported incident. Personnel who were found in breach, then, were either censured and/or subjected to financial penalties.”

UNRWA stressed, “To suggest that hate is widespread within the Agency and schools is not only misleading and false but validates sensationalist and politically-motivated attacks that deliberately harm an already vulnerable community: refugee children. UNRWA’s mandate is to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to over five million Palestine refugees, a responsibility the Agency takes very seriously.”

The Rank and File at Temple University (RAFT) in Philadelphia, a local member of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) representing teachers and other education workers at Temple University, this week called on its union members to condemn Israel’s occupation of Palestine and its brutal attacks on Palestinians.

RAFT demanded total divestment from Israel and an end for all US aid and support for Israel.

“The members of the Rank-and-File Temple Caucus (RAFT) unequivocally support the cause of Palestinian liberation from Israeli occupation, settler colonialism, and apartheid,” said a RAFT statement of solidarity with Palestinians.

“RAFT supports the workers and oppressed people of Palestine, who are targeted by the colonial violence of the state of Israel. We support Palestinian-led movements such as BDS and its academia and culture focused subdivision PACBI.”

It added: “We call on President Biden to immediately cease all military aid and financial support for the state of Israel, which we know exists only to further the imperialist aims of the US government in the Middle East and beyond. The US government must stop sending American police units to Israel for training; and the President, Departments of State, Defense, and Treasury, and Congress must take the recommendations of Human Rights Watch in their recent report as a serious starting point for putting pressure on Israel to cease committing these crimes and hold those responsible accountable.”

RAFT called on the AFT “to completely divest from the State of Israel, including the liquidation of its $200,000 worth of State of Israel bonds; to condemn the Israeli authorities’ crimes of apartheid and persecution; and to join us in demanding that the US end all support for the Israeli state.”

Israeli settlers assaulted last night a Palestinian farmer in Kufr Rai village, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, and vandalized his car, local sources said this morning.

Settlers from the illegal Mabo Dotan settlement, built on land belonging to the villages of Yabad and Arraba, assaulted the farmer while he was in his land and broke the windows of his car.

Violence by armed Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories is rampant and the attackers are never pursued or prosecuted.

The Palestinian presidency today condemned the Israeli army killing yesterday of 38-year-old Imad Dweikat in the village of Beita, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and called for providing international protection for the Palestinian people.

Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh told Voice of Palestine radio that the killing of Dweikat confirms the viciousness and crimes of the occupation against the defenseless Palestinian people and a continuation of the daily killings that cannot be tolerated.

He renewed the call on the international community to provide protection for the Palestinian people, end the occupation, and establish the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.

Abu Rudeineh appreciated the position of the US State Department, which called on Israel to refrain from displacing the Palestinian families of Sheikh Jarrah and not to take other steps that would exacerbate tensions and undermine efforts to revive the two-state solution, calling on the US administration to take practical and tangible steps on the ground in that matter.

The presidential spokesman said President Mahmoud Abbas will announce in his upcoming speech at the United Nations General Assembly next month an initiative that calls for obligating Israel to stop its violations against the Palestinian people, as well as providing international protection for them in light of the Israeli occupation government continuing to commit crimes against the Palestinian people with total disregard to all international conventions and treaties in this regard.

A total of 136 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Palestine in the last 24 hours, a slight surge since last week, today said Minister of Health Mai Alkaila.

She said in her daily report on the pandemic in Palestine that 44 people have tested positive for the disease in the West Bank while 17 patients have recovered.

The Gaza Strip recorded 92 new cases and 16 patients recovered.

No deaths from corona were recorded in either the West Bank or Gaza.

Alkaila said 18 people are currently getting treatment in hospitals and 11 are in intensive care, while two patients are on ventilators.

Almost half a million people have been vaccinated against coronavirus in the West Bank and 110,135 in the Gaza Strip.

Sada Social Center, a Palestinian digital rights organization, said in a statement today it has documented 111 violations against Palestinian content by international social media platforms during July 2021.

The Sada Social Center team documented more than 111 violations during July: 50 violations by Twitter, another 50 by Facebook and an additional 11 violations by Instagram.

These violations, according to the center, varied between complete ban and suspension of some features, complete closure of accounts and pages, and the restriction of publications and lowering reach levels.

The social media platforms deleted publications and stories, restricted accounts, and banned live broadcasts for a number of Palestinian journalists and activists, in conjunction with the intensity of publishing the Israeli occupation’s assault on Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque and the aggression on Gaza.

Twitter removed hundreds of Palestinian and Arab accounts after tweeting and posting in solidarity with Palestine, and the most prominent of which was the limitation of hashtags and posts published about the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods in Jerusalem, and others about the crimes of the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian narrative in Gaza.

The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel has sent an urgent letter to Israeli Attorney General (AG) Avichai Mandelblit, demanding to clarify that the measures undertaken by the municipalities of Netanya, Acre, and Hadera blocking the access of Palestinians to beaches within their respective jurisdictions are illegal.

The letter, sent by Adalah Attorney Rabea Eghbariah, was accompanied by Adalah’s inquiries to the Israeli municipalities of Acre and Netanya, after they took action to prevent Palestinians from reaching the shores under the guise of dealing with the spread of the coronavirus. Adalah argued that all of these measures were illegally taken without any authority.

Adalah’s demand of the AG follows the decision taken by the Israeli city council of Acre on 4 August to erect a fence around Argaman Beach and to allow entrance only to holders of “Green Pass” certificates (proof of vaccination or immunity to coronavirus). By law, COVID-19 regulations in Israel are determined solely by the Israeli government through its Corona Cabinet, and currently do not include any restrictions on movement in public, open spaces.

Adalah argues that not only were these measures taken by the city council illegally, but also were intended to prevent Palestinian visitors from the West Bank from accessing the shores of Acre under the pretext of public health.

The Acre municipality also imposed other measures to block access to the coast, including preventing private buses from entering roads leading to the Argaman Beach. In an earlier letter to the municipality following the council’s decision of 14 July, to allocate a special budget for the fence, Adalah demanded that the municipality immediately cease all such restrictions.

A day after the council’s decision, journalist Rafat Aker, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, documented municipal inspectors forcing Palestinians from the West Bank city of Jenin, back into their vehicles and accompanying them out of the city. This measure was taken despite the fact that some Palestinians stated that they are vaccinated and have legal entry and stay permits.

Shortly after these events, Adalah also learned that similar instructions were given by Hadera Mayor Zvi Gendelman. Adalah subsequently sent a letter to Gendelman demanding that the city immediately cease such unlawful actions.

In 2019, Adalah challenged a ban imposed by the Afula municipality on the entrance of non-residents to its park. In this case, the Nazareth district court determined that local authorities are prohibited by law to restrict access to public, open spaces like beaches or parks.

The AG then, in rare move, filed his position on the case to the court, supporting Adalah’s demand.

تبحث وكالات الاستخبارات الأمريكية في كم هائل من البيانات الجينية التي من شأنها أن تكون طريقا لكشف لغز أصول فيروس “كورونا” المستجد حال تحليلها وفك شفرتها، وفقا لما أوردته شبكة “سي إن إن” الأمريكية.

وذكرت الشكبة الأمريكية في تقريرها، اليوم الجمعة، أن قاعدة البيانات الضخمة التي يملكها مجتمع الاستخبارات مستمدة من عينات الفيروس التي تمت دراستها في مختبر معهد ووهان (وسط) لعلم الفيروسات بالصين، والتي ينظر لها على أنها مصدر تفشي وباء كوفيد-19.

وأشارت إلى أن الكشف الجديد، يأتي ضمن جهود وكالات الاستخبارات بالتحقيق في أصول الوباء الذي يستمر 90 يوما، تنفيذا لتوجيهات الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن، حيث من المفترض أن تنتهي في الأسبوع الأخير من آب/أغسطس الجاري.

وقالت مصادر مطلعة على الأمر للشبكة الأمريكية إنه ليس من الواضح كيف أو متى تمكنت وكالات الاستخبارات الأمريكية من الوصول إلى المعلومات، لكن الأجهزة المشاركة في إنشاء ومعالجة هذا النوع من البيانات الجينية للفيروسات ترتبط عادة بخوادم خارجية قائمة على السحابة، مما يجعل من إمكانية اختراقها متاحا.

وأضافت: “تملك وكالات الاستخبارات الأمريكية تحديات تتعلق بالقوى العاملة لفك شفرة تلك البيانات، خاصة وأن تفسير المعلومات يحتاج للعنصر البشري المتخصص والمصرح له بالعمل مع أجهزة الاستخبارات، على اعتبار أنها مكتوبة بلغة الماندرين وبمفردات تخصصية.

وتعليقا على تلك المعلومات، قال المدير السابق للاستخبارات الوطنية، جون راتكليف: “إن مجتمع الاستخبارات الأمريكية لديه بالفعل مجموعة كافية حول موضوع أصول كوفيد”.

وأضاف في تصريحات نقلتها الشبكة الأمريكية: “لدينا نظرة ثاقبة غير عادية حول هذا الموضوع لعدة أشهر، أكثر بكثير مما تم رفع السرية عنه. التظاهر بأننا لم نفعل ذلك هو شأن سياسي لمحاولة كسب الوقت”.

يشار إلى ان فريق مكون من علماء منظمة الصحة العالمية ونظرائهم الصينيين زاروا “ووهان” كانون ثاني/يناير الماضي لبحث أصول الوباء الذي أدى لفوضى عارمة في العالم.

وخلص الفريق لاحقا إلى أن فيروس “كورونا” المستجد انتقل للإنسان عبر حيوان وسيط.

وظهر الفيروس في الصين، لأول مرة في 12 كانون أول/ديسمبر 2019، بمدينة ووهان، إلا أن بكين كشفت عنه رسميا منتصف كانون ثاني/يناير 2020.

وحتى اليوم السبت، تجاوز عدد مصابي كورونا حول العالم، 201 مليونا و721 ألفا، توفي منهم أكثر من 4 ملايين و280 ألفا، وتعافى ما يزيد على 181 مليونا و475 ألفًا، وفق موقع “ورلدوميتر”.

دعت الخارجية الأمريكية إلى وقف ترحيل عائلات حي “الشيخ جراح” بالقدس المحتلة، وعدم اتخاذ خطوات تعيق حل الدولتين للصراع الفلسطيني الإسرائيلي.

وأكد متحدث الخارجية نيد برايس، في مؤتمر صحفي، فجر اليوم، أن بلاده “تدعو إلى وقف إخلاء عائلات حي الشيخ جراح بالقدس من منازلهم، وعدم اتخاذ خطوات تؤجج العنف وتعيق حل الدولتين”، حسبما نقلت قناة “الحرة” الأمريكية

والاثنين، أرجأت المحكمة “العليا” التابعة للاحتلال الإسرائيلي، اليوم الاثنين، قرارها بشأن التماس قدمته عائلات فلسطينية، ضد قرار إخلائها من منازلها في حي “الشيخ جراح” بمدينة القدس المحتلة.

وكشفت الإذاعة العبرية، في حينه، عن أن قضاة المحكمة اقترحوا أن يعترف الفلسطينيون بملكية الأرض المقامة عليها المنازل، مقابل اعتراف المحكمة بهم كمستأجرين محميين، مع دفع إيجارات رمزية، وهو ما رفضه طاقم الدفاع عن العائلات.

وتواجه 28 عائلة بحي الشيخ جراح مخاطر إجلائها قسرًا من منازلها التي تقيم فيها منذ العام 1956 لصالح مستوطنين، وسط ادعاءات إسرائيلية بأن المنازل أقيمت على أرض كانت بملكية يهودية قبل عام 1948 وهو ما ينفيه الفلسطينيون.

ولاقت حملة أطلقها سكان حي الشيخ جراح لإنقاذ منازلهم من المستوطنين، ومنع تهجيرهم، منذ فبراير/شباط الماضي، تضامنا فلسطينيا ودوليا واسعا، مما وضع القدس وسياسات التهويد الإسرائيلية فيها على أجندة المنظمات الأممية.

أعلن “حزب الله” اللبناني، ظهر اليوم الجمعة، مسؤوليته عن إطلاق عشرات الصواريخ باتجاه مناطق مفتوحة في محيط مواقع للاحتلال الإسرائيلي في مزارع “شبعا” المحتلة جنوبي لبنان.

وقال “حزب الله” في بيان، إنه “عند الساعة 11:15 دقيقة من قبل ظهر اليوم الجمعة (بالتوقيت المحلي)، قامت مجموعات الشهيد علي كامل محسن ‏والشهيد محمد قاسم طحان في المقاومة الإسلامية بقصف أراضٍ مفتوحة في محيط مواقع الاحتلال ‏الإسرائيلي في مزارع شبعا”.

وأشار إلى القصف تم بعشرات الصواريخ من عيار 122 ملم. ‏

وأكد الحزب في بيانه، أنه عملية القصف، جاءت “رداً على الغارات الجوية الإسرائيلية على أراضٍ ‏مفتوحة في منطقتي الجرمق والشواكير ليلة الخميس الماضي”.

ودوّت صافرات إنذار قبيل ظهر اليوم، الجمعة، في قرية “عيت قينيا” ومستوطنة “نافيه أتيف” قرب جبل الشيخ في هضبة الجولان المحتلة، وكذلك في بلدة “سنير” قرب الحدود الفلسطينية المحتلة مع لبنان في الجليل الأعلى.

وذكر جيش الاحتلال في بيان، أن أكثر من 10 صواريخ أطلقت من لبنان باتجاه “إسرائيل”، تمكنت نظام الدفاع الجوي من اسقاط معظمها، فيما سقطت بقية الصواريخ في مناطق غير مأهولة، وفق زعمه.

وهذه المرة الثانية خلال الأسبوع الحالي الذي تطلق فيه قذائف صاروخية من جنوب لبنان باتجاه أهداف إسرائيلية، حيث استهدفت قذيفتين صاروخيتين مدينة “كريات شمونا” القريبة من الحدود مع لبنان.

حذرت قوة الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة في لبنان “يونيفيل” من خطورة المستجدات الأخيرة بين لبنان والاحتلال الإسرائيلي، وحثت جميع الأطراف على ضبط النفس لتفادي المزيد من التصعيد.

وقالت “يونيفيل”، في تغريدة عبر حسابها على موقع تويتر: “رصدنا إطلاق صواريخ من لبنان، ورد المدفعية الإسرائيلية”.

وأضافت: “هذا وضع خطير للغاية، ونحث جميع الأطراف على وقف إطلاق النار”.

وفي وقت سابق الجمعة، قصف جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، بعد ظهر اليوم الجمعة، عدة مناطق حدودية جنوبي لبنان.

وذكرت الوكالة الوطنية للاعلام (رسمية)، “إن جيش العدو الاسرائيلي، قصف بقذائف المدفعية من عيار 155 على تلال كفرشوبا والهبارية في العرقوب”.

وأضافت “ان جيش العدو استهدف كذلك منطقة رباع التبن وبسطرة والسدانة بالقذائف الحارقة، مما أدى إلى إشعال حرائق في المنطقة”.

من جهته، ذكر جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، في بيان مقتصب أنه بدأ بقصف مواقع في لبنان، دون تفاصيل إضافية.

وفي وقت سابق اليوم، أعلن “حزب الله” اللبناني، مسؤوليته عن إطلاق عشرات الصواريخ باتجاه مناطق مفتوحة في محيط مواقع للاحتلال الإسرائيلي في مزارع “شبعا” المحتلة جنوبي لبنان.

وقال في بيان “تم قصف أراضٍ مفتوحة في محيط مواقع الاحتلال الإسرائيلي في مزارع شبعا، بعشرات الصواريخ من عيار 122 ملم”.

وكان جيش الاحتلال، أعلن في بيان أن أكثر من 10 صواريخ، أُطلقت، الجمعة، من لبنان، على المناطق الشمالية.

دعا رئيس حكومة تصريف الأعمال اللبنانية حسان دياب، اليوم الجمعة، الأمم المتحدة إلى الضغط على الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، لوقف انتهاكاتها لسيادة بلاده.

جاء ذلك في بيان للحكومة اللبنانية، بالتزامن مع تنامي التصعيد العسكري على الحدود مع فلسطين المحتلة.

وطالب دياب “الأمم المتحدة بالضغط على إسرائيل وإلزامها باحترام القرار 1701، ووقف انتهاكاتها للسيادة اللبنانية”.

وأكد دياب “ضرورة وقف الخروقات الإسرائيلية المتكررة للسيادة اللبنانية، والتي بلغت ذروتها الخميس من خلال الغارة التي نفذها طيران العدو على الأراضي اللبنانية”.

وفي وقت سابق اليوم، أعلن “حزب الله” اللبناني، مسؤوليته عن إطلاق عشرات الصواريخ باتجاه مناطق مفتوحة في محيط مواقع للاحتلال الإسرائيلي في مزارع “شبعا” المحتلة جنوبي لبنان.
