IHEC: We Guarantee The Participation Of All Kirkuk Voters And The Candidates’ Campaigns Will Launch Next Month

Baghdad -The Independent High Electoral Commission announced the launch of the media campaign for candidates for the local elections on the first of next November.

The Commission’s official spokesperson, Jumana Al-Ghalai, said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency : “We have more than six thousand candidates and 134 electoral lists that include 39 alliances, 29 parties, and 66 individual candidates participating in the upcoming electoral process at the end of this year.”

She explained, “The quota for women is achieved in all electoral lists, because the Commission’s procedures guarantee the participation of women in all lists of alliances and parties.”

She added, “According to the Diwani order, there is a special committee to audit the voter registry in Kirkuk Governorate, and include voters in the updating and lottery processes. They will also be included in the new biometric card. A technical committee was also formed headed by a member of the Board of Commissioners, Fattah Muhammad Hussein, and includes representatives of the Ministries of Health, Justice, Commerce, Interior, Planning, and Representatives of Kirkuk Governorate, to review and audit the voter register.”

The Commission’s official spokesperson confirmed, “The special committee met in the field within the governorate and visited the offices of Kirkuk and its affiliated districts for the purpose of verifying the voter registry and ensuring their constitutional rights to participate in these elections, as voters were included in the updating procedures, the biometric card, and the lottery of candidates,” indicating that “the Commission guarantees the rights of Kirkuk voters are able to participate in the elections, similar to the other fifteen governorates included in the local council elections.”

It is noteworthy that the Election Commission will finish approving all procedures related to the names of candidates at the end of this month of October.
