Israel approves construction of hundreds of new settlement units southeast of Bethlehem

Israeli authorities approved today the construction of hundreds of new settlement units to expand the illegal settlement of Mtsad, built on Palestinian land southeast of Bethlehem, according to a local activist.

Hasan Brijiyeh, a local anti-settlement, and anti-wall activist told WAFA Israeli authorities approved the construction of 560 new settlement units in Mtsad settlement, built on Palestinian residents’ land in the village of Kisan and al-Rashaydeh, southeast of Bethlehem.

He said this decision comes days after the Israeli authorities approved the construction of 90 settlement units in the settlement of Ibi Hanahal, built illegally on Kisan village land.

He stressed that this acceleration of settlement expansion is clearly aimed at taking control of the southern-eastern area for the benefit of linking settlements together.

All settlements are considered illegal by international law and United Nations resolutions.
