1. Dominica was named by Christopher Columbus 

Prior to Christopher Columbus’ arrival on the island, the Caribbean settlers named it Watikbuli, meaning ‘Tall is her Body’. In 1493, Christopher arrived on the island and named it Domingo, which means Sunday, the day which he discovered the island.

2. Dominica has an interesting motto 

The motto is French, ‘Après le Bon Dieu, c’est la Terre’, translated to English as ‘After God, the Earth’, Dominica eloquently displays its natural beauty.

3. Dominica is a republic in the Commonwealth

The Waitukubuli National Trail (WNT) is the first long-distance hiking trail in the Caribbean. It is estimated to be 183 km long and is split into 14 sections. The trail was built between 2007 and 2012, the route crosses through Dominica and traverses some of the country’s most spectacular terrain. It will take a minimum of two weeks to complete the hiking trail.

The Morne Trois Pitons National Park is the exclusive Heritage Site in Dominica and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. This national park is situated in the southern half of the island and contains many of Dominica’s most spectacular attractions including the Titou Gorge, Boeri, Freshwater Lakes, the Boiling Lake, and the Middleham Falls. The Morne Trois Pitons National Park covers roughly 9 per cent of Dominica’s land area.

Confrontations between Israeli police and protesters raising Palestinian flags in Sheikh Jarrah in Al-Quds


Confrontations broke out on Friday evening between the Israeli police and Palestinian and foreign protesters who were carrying Palestinian flags in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East of Al-Quds.



The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that police forcefully removed the flags from the hands of the demonstrators and arrested 3 of them.



For its part, the official Palestinian News Agency said, “The Israeli occupation forces suppressed, this Friday evening, a march denouncing settlement activity in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in the occupied city of Al-Quds.”



It quoted eyewitnesses that “the occupation forces attacked the participants in the march, with the participation of Arab and foreign activists, who denounced the settlement and targeting of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood”

A soldier was injured in an ISIS attack on a military point northeast of Baquba, Diyala Governorate Center.



A security source told the reporter of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that a terrorist group attacked a security point in the vicinity of the village of Al-Khilaniyya on the outskirts of Al-Muqdadiyah, northeast of Baquba, wounding a soldier.



He added that military reinforcements arrived in the area and started a campaign to search the nearby orchards in search of the attackers.

A Bahraini Pilgrim Died At Safwan Border Crossing, West Of Basra


A Bahraini pilgrim died in Safwan district, west of Basra, today, Friday,



after returning from the holy city of Karbala.



A security source said that a 56-year-old Bahraini pilgrim (visitor) died after his health condition deteriorated before arriving at Safwan border crossing, coming from the holy city of Karbala.



He added that he was transferred to the district clinic, but he died.

Armed clashes renewed in Ain al-Hilweh camp in southern Lebanon


Clashes renewed in the Ain al-Hilweh camp for Palestinian refugee located in the city of Sidon, southern Lebanon.



The Lebanese News Agency reported that armed clashes broke out among parties belonging to political forces in the Ain al-Hilweh camp on the “Reconstruction-Barracks” axis, in which machine guns and missiles were used, the effects of which resonated in the city of Sidon.



The Agency indicated that a large number of residents of the camp and the surrounding area were displaced in the direction of Al-Mosuli Mosque.



For its part, the “Palestinian Joint Action Authority in Lebanon” called for a ceasefire in the Ain al-Hilweh camp, to allow the joint Palestinian security force in the camp and the Joint Action Authority in Sidon to carry out their duties.

Civil Defense Directorate announces the extinguishing of a fire in a spare tools building in the Tobji area


The Civil Defense Directorate announced today, Friday, that a fire was extinguished in a building for spare tools in the Tobji area in Baghdad.



The Directorate said in a statement: “Civil defense teams extinguished a fire that broke out inside a three-story building used as a warehouse for trading in spare parts for cars in the Tobji area in central Baghdad at dawn on Friday.”



He added, “The civil defense teams mobilized and pushed their specialized and support vehicles while moving the ladder vehicle designated for high-rise buildings to gain full control over the incident after they were able to cordon off the fire, enter the middle of the burning building, and end the fire without recording human casualties,” indicating that “an investigation was opened and an expert was summoned to determine the causes of the fire in that building.”

Turkish MoD Announces The Killing Of 7 PKK Militants In An Air Strike In Northern Syria


The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that 7 militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed in an air strike in the area of Operation “Peace Spring” in northern Syria.



The Turkish defense stated in a statement today that the Turkish forces detected a group of PKK militants while they were preparing to carry out an attack on a Turkish army site by digging a tunnel in the “Peace Spring” area.



It explained that the Turkish forces carried out a successful operation using drones, during which they managed to neutralize 7 militants belonging to the PKK/YPG and its armed wing, and prevented the tunnel from being dugged.

The French government calls for calm after the death of a young man of Turkish origin following a police chase


The French government called for calm after announcing the brain death of a young man of Turkish origin (16 years old) after his motorcycle collided with a police car on a road outside Paris.



The victim’s family lawyer accused the police of ramming the boy’s motorcycle into a patrol car during a high-speed chase.



Prosecutors said two policemen were being held pending a possible investigation on manslaughter charges. They quoted the police as saying that the young man did not comply with orders to stop while he was riding his motorcycle on the sidewalk and collided with a police car at an intersection while trying to escape.



Prosecutors stated earlier Thursday that the young man had died.



After Wednesday’s accident, the boy, whose lawyer Yassine Bouzrou said he holds dual French and Turkish citizenship, was transferred to the hospital after suffering serious injuries at the scene of the accident.



Government spokesman Olivier Veran said that ongoing investigations would determine the “exact circumstances” of the incident.



He told France Inter radio: “I clearly call for calm… I call for restraint and careful thinking.”



He continued, “No matter how tragic the situation is, it requires answers that we do not yet have.”

The Babylon Police Command announced today, Friday, that the martyr Colonel Khalil Shalal checkpoint detachments were able, through procedures for checking the names of arrivals in the north of the governorate, to arrest a wanted person in accordance with Article 432 of the Penal Code



Babylon Police Director of Information, Brigadier General Adel Al-Husseini, said, “In another context of procedures north of the city, the Martyr’s checkpoint detachments, Colonel Salam Shannon, arrested a wanted person in accordance with Article 430 of the Penal Code, while the Martyrs checkpoint detachments arrested a wanted person in accordance with Article 238 of the Iraqi Penal Code.” ./End
