نيوجين تحصل على براءة اختراع من أجل الالتقاط المتكامل للوثائق وتحليلها

براءات الاختراع لتعزيز قدرات منصة خدمات المحتوى السياقي الخاصة بنيوجين

CGTN: In America, paying taxes is optional if you’re a billionaire

BEIJING, Dec. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — American billionaires have been paying tax on just a tiny fraction of their income, if any at all, at a rate much lower than the average person struggling to live paycheck to paycheck, according to a report published in June by the non-profit investigative news organization ProPublica, based on a vast trove of leaked tax records from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The report compared the amount of tax paid annually by the richest 25 Americans to their wealth accrual during the same period, as estimated by Forbes magazine. Of a total wealth accumulation of $401 billion, the group collectively paid $13.6 billion in taxes – a dazzling sum that nonetheless translates to a real tax rate of just 3.4 percent.

In contrast, the average American household paid 14 percent in federal taxes, at rates that rise progressively in relation to income. Between 2014 and 2018, a typical household of wage earners in their early 40s saw their net worth expand by $65,000 on average, mainly due to the rise in value of their homes. But the bulk of such earnings – roughly $62,000 – went to the taxman.

IRS funding cuts combined with ever-more sophisticated tax avoidance tactics developed by the rich have made dodging taxes easier than ever, according to a report by the National Bureau for Economic Research. These tactics often include accessing resources not available to the general public, such as offshore tax shelters, pass-through businesses and complex accounting techniques, all of which exploit legal grey areas.

Last year, America’s 50 wealthiest family dynasties held a total of $1.2 trillion in assets. By comparison, the bottom half of all U.S. households – an estimated 65 million families – shared a combined wealth of $2.5 trillion, according to the report.

The lead author of the study, Chuck Collins, pointed out in an interview with the Jacobin magazine that these wealthy billionaire families are less focused on starting businesses and care more about rent extraction.

“With this system being solidified, today’s billionaires will be tomorrow’s dynastic facilities,” he said. “If the pattern persists for 20 years on the current trajectory, we will have even greater concentrations of hereditary wealth and power dominating our politics, economy, media, and philanthropy. Looks like feudalism, smells like feudalism.”

Fatah movement appeals to Miss Universe contestants to protest Israel’s apartheid and withdraw from the contest

In an appeal to Miss Universe contestants who are gathering in Israel for the Miss Universe Pageant, the ruling Palestinian National Liberation Movement, Fatah, today called on the contestants to oppose Israel’s apartheid regime and withdraw from the contest.

“In the name of humanity, justice, equality, and peace,” said the appeal, “We appeal to your conscience and humanity to withdraw today your participation in the Miss Universe pageant contest in Israel.”

“The State of Israel is an apartheid state at the core. By participating in the forthcoming Miss Universe Beauty Pageant you are actively partaking in a sustained effort of a rogue State, the apartheid State of Israel, to cover its apartheid core by the forthcoming Pageant,” said the appeal, calling on the contestants “not to take part in this regime of oppression, genocide and ethnic cleansing.”

On behalf of the Palestinian victims who died under the Israeli occupation’s brutal shells and fire,

On behalf of every suppressed Palestinian woman who could not be a model, artist, or scientist under the blockade and injustice of the Israeli apartheid,

We appeal to your conscience and humanity to withdraw today your participation in the Miss Universe pageant contest in Israel, on the following grounds:

* The State of Israel has been established in 1948 as an apartheid State anchored in the ethnic cleansing of some 80% of the Palestinian-Arab rural and urban population ordinarily resident in the territories that came under its sovereignty and control, aka the Palestinian Catastrophe (al-Nakba), reducing some 800,000 Palestinians to stateless refugee existing outside the territories that came under its sovereignty and control, and many of the some 200,000 who survived the Palestinian Nakba to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) inside territories that came under its sovereignty and control;

* The State of Israel has maintained the belligerent occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967, the longest belligerent occupation in modern history, and is the only state that is a Member State in the UN that continues settler-colonizing Palestinian properties both inside its 1948 ethnically cleansed territories and in its 1967 occupied territories;

* The State of Israel is an apartheid state at the core. Israeli military vehicles breach northern Gaza border, level land

Israeli military vehicles and an army bulldozer today breached the northern Gaza border and leveled land, reported WAFA correspondent.

He said several tanks accompanied a bulldozer as they infiltrated several meters inside the Gaza border and proceeded to level land near the fence.

Israel keeps near its fence with Gaza a buffer zone inside the besieged Gaza Strip and prevents farmers and landowners from reaching that area and opens fire at anyone seen near it.

Settlements expert says Israel aims to change geography and demography of occupied East Jerusalem

A Palestinian expert on Israeli settlements in the occupied territories said today that Israel’s settlement projects in occupied East Jerusalem aim to change the geography and demography of the city.

Suheil Khalilieh, director of the settlement monitoring unit at the Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ), told WAFA that Israel wants to control as much of the East Jerusalem land as possible by taking advantage of the powers granted to the official in charge of the so-called absentee property, a right-wing settler, who has control over a thousand properties in East Jerusalem.

This official has begun to manipulate the classification of properties in East Jerusalem in order to control them through settlement projects, he said.

The ARIJ expert was commenting on a report that appeared today in the Israeli daily, Haaretz, that talked about plans to build several settlements in the occupied part of the holy city that would totally alter its character and identity.

Khalilieh emphasized that the Israeli government had designated many areas in East Jerusalem as green areas and others as public parks in order to later change this classification and establish settlements on these lands.

He pointed out that these areas are mostly in the Old City and around Jerusalem. Their ownership is quickly transferred to the settlement associations without the Palestinian owners of these lands being able to claim them back, explaining that the Israeli government wants to redraw the borders of Jerusalem from the outside and inside as well, especially in the “holy basin”, the area around and near the Old City of Jerusalem, in order to seize it and expel its rightful owners.

Khalilieh said Israel is currently working to evacuate the industrial zone in Wad al-Joz area, which is part of the so-called holy basin, that will lead to the demolition of 200 industrial facilities owned for decades by Palestinians in order to build what it refers to as Silicon Valley, as well as tourist centers in nearby al-Sawwana area after controlling it and displacing its residents.

The Israeli project at Damascus Gate, he added, aims to completely close the area to the Palestinians, and the “holy basin” area will be turned into settlement projects after obliterating its Arab landmarks.

Khalilieh stressed that this issue is totally political and that Israel is racing against time to create a fait accompli in East Jerusalem that would give it a bigger presence in the occupied city.

He pointed out that there are three Jewish moguls who pay exorbitant sums of money to the settlement organizations, particularly those working to change the character of occupied East Jerusalem, in order to seize Palestinian land and real estate: Sheldon Adelson, Irving Moskowitz, and Roman Abramovich.

Khalilieh stressed the importance of strengthening and sustaining the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem.

Israel begins work on seized Palestinian-owned plot of land in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood

the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem today began work on a plot of Palestinian-owned land at the entrance to Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in the occupied city of Jerusalem, which was seized under the pretext of “public interest.”

WAFA correspondent reported that the municipality crews and bulldozers began the bulldozing work on the land, which has an area of about 4,700 square meters owned by four Palestinian families and was used as a parking lot and carwash.

The Israeli Supreme Court allowed at the end of October the takeover of the land by the Israeli municipality with the aim of establishing a garden serving settlers, claiming its close proximity to the so-called Shimon HaTzedik shrine.

The municipality issued a decision to seize the land in 2016 after several failed attempts in light of the opposition of the takeover by the four families, who fought the takeover in Israeli courts.

Shadi Nassar, one of the tenants of a facility, told WAFA that the municipality handed them yesterday an immediate eviction order, otherwise, they will be heavily fined.

“We began to dismantle the car wash and a parking lot used by more than 40 buses and three containers that served as offices, and today, since the early morning hours, the municipality began to raze the land,” he said.

Former lawmaker among at least 30 Palestinians detained in sweeping Israeli raids in the occupied territories

Israeli occupation forces today detained at least 30 Palestinians, including a former lawmaker, in sweeping detention raids across the occupied territories, according to various sources.

They said that Israeli forces detained former Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) member, Hassan Yousef, 63, after breaking into his house in Beitunia town, west of Ramallah.

They also re-arrested two former prisoners after storming their houses in the central West Bank city of al-Bireh and another city resident after stopping him at King Hussein border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan as he was making his way back to home.

Soldiers also raided Beit Liqya village, southwest of Ramallah, and detained two men.

Soldiers detained two others from Ramallah and al-Bireh district, including a resident of al-Bireh.

In occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli security forces detained five Palestinians, including two former prisoners, after storming their homes in the Old City identified as Nasser Hidmi and Jihad Qous, social and political activists.

Police officers also showed up at the family house of a former prisoner in the Old City of Jerusalem’s area of Bab Hutta, thoroughly searched it and eventually assaulted and re-arrested the house’s owner along with his wife, leaving behind their two children alone. The couple was later released.

Two others were detained; an employee of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company from his workplace in the city and a teenager while he was in West Jerusalem, as confirmed by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

Forces stormed al-Eizariya town, east of the city, and detained one person.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops conducted multiple raids across the southern West Bank district of Hebron, resulting in the detention of seven people.

The detainees were identified as a resident of Deir Samet town, west of Hebron, a resident of Hebron city, and five residents, including two brothers, of Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron city.

In Salfit district in the north of the West Bank, the soldiers carried out separate raids in Qarawat Bani Hassan and Biddya towns, northwest and southwest of Salfit city, resulting in the detention of two others.

In Nablus district, the soldiers detained one resident of the Ras Al-Ain area in the city of Nablus after shooting him. One Palestinian was killed in the ensuing violent confrontations.

Three others were detained; one from Nablus city and two others from Jamain town, southwest of the city.

Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, the sources confirmed a similar raid in Qalqilya city, resulting in the detention of another.

Israeli occupation forces kill Palestinian man, injure two others in Nablus raid

Israeli occupation forces killed late last night a Palestinian man and injured two others in a raid in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, local sources confirmed.

Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent’s (PRC) Emergency and Ambulance Department, Ahmad Jibril, identified the slain man as Jamil al-Kayyal, 31, saying that he was shot in the head by live ammunition in Ras Al-Ain area in the city of Nablus.

He added that two others, both unidentified, were injured when they were run over by an Israeli military vehicle.

Local sources said that special Israeli forces entered the city to carry out detentions, sparking violent confrontations with local youths.

There were no casualties among the Israeli soldiers, who ultimately detained a man.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law, army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
